PostSubject: Heard about the Xbox One?   Heard about the Xbox One? Icon_minitimeWed May 22, 2013 8:44 pm

Of course you've heard about it! Now I don't know if you guys saw the reveal of the Xbox One or not, but of course it had it's Thats f*cking awesome" moments and those "if that means what I think it mean, that's dumber than a blonde that planted Cheerios thinking they were donut seeds! " moments. One thing that really sucks about the Xbox One is there is absolutely no backwards compatibility. Typically I would trade in my 360 and put the money towards the new Xbox One. I don't think I'm going to be doing that this time around. I'll have to hold on to the 360 until there is a substantial amount of games available for the Xbox One or at least until the new Call of Duty and Madden come out, which I assume is going to be released with the Xbox One.

Side note: Sad to say that this league may start to break up due to players crossing over to the next gen Madden.

Plus, all those hundreds of dollars you may have invested in your Xbox Live Arcade games... They're stuck on your 360 forever. Thats right. No way you can transfer those games to the Xbox One. I think I understand why this is.. It may be because the dev's of the XBLA games would have to go back and optimize their games for the Xbox One. Which yes.. could be a pain in the ass but I guess they'd rather hear the backlash from their customers. Again that is just my thought..

The Xbox One has a ton of crazy features especially the graphics, of course. The next gen Madden looks so sick it will make you puke. And the detail they showed on the new COD: Ghosts looked eerily realistic. Also, all games will be available for download so no more waiting in line at midnight for the newest edition of your favorite franchise.. Instead you get to sit at home on the couch and watch the download bar go slower than you think it should be going. It's like watching water boil guys!

Either way your probably going to read a shit load of complaints on the internet since everyone wants to put out the negatives. (kind of like I did.. haha ) Probably more complaints than praises but none the less, I'd still be the first one in line to buy this damn next gen console. If I had a spare $500-$800 lying around. I Just pray it's no more than $700 and they don't raise the prices of the games too much. Xbox games use to be $50 then the 360 came out and they were raised to $60.

I got a lot of info out of this article where they interviewed the Microsoft VP.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/phil-harrison-xbox-one/

I'm interested to hear what your guys' thoughts are. Are you going to get it at release or wait a few months to a year before making the switch??

I have actually heard of the name and saw the look and was disgusted. I doubt I will be getting it anytime soon (as if the misses will let me buy it anyways). The backwards compatibility I can understand a bit for newer games but if they really have none at all and not just rumors then I can't justify it at all. I still haven't upgraded to PS3 and took about 6 years to go to 360.

I'm officially absolutely disgusted with Microsofts recent news that they are requiring an online connection to be able for the system to run any games. No so much because of the requirement. More or less the things they added with it. You buy your games. You play your games. However, the system must be signed in every 24 hours or you won't be able to keep the game you bought. What the hell is that? Microsoft is completely screwing up on this one.

If nothing changes on this news they released, I'll be buying myself a Sony Playstation 4. I've always been a fan of the Xbox and hated the Playstations, but Microsoft is making it near impossible to see any perks with their system. How can they take away something I've paid near 100 dollars for just because I don't get online every day? That's complete crap! What if I go on vacation? What if life gets busy? What happens if XBL crashes like it has many times? How can you restore every single users games? You can't, you have no way of knowing what games they have any way.

Come on Sony, don't let me down! Give me news of difference from Microsoft!

You misunderstand it doesn't have to be logged into. There just has to be Internet connection once every 24 hours. Also it doesn't affect the purchase of the game you will just lose your progress in the offline game. If it is an online based game( think online connected career) your fine. Simple just keep it plugged into the Internet, but an issue could arise with long term power outages.

Not only was I not going to shell out $700 for a game system, I'm now thinking that anyone willing to spend that much on a system that lacks simple features (like backwards compatibility) is a dumbass. If they put it out there and people don't buy it because it doesn't offer what they want Microsoft will be forced to change it. I for one won't be giving them my money. Hell, I could almost buy a decent used car for that much.

Xbox One is more like Xbox Done. I think they're screwing themselves here. I hope Playstation is smarter.

I have heard basically nothing good about the new xbox(other then graphics). The price tag is ridiculous, and Microsoft is being Microsoft trying to make people play by there rules. They already relented on the whole not allowing used games without a fee crap. Hopefully they keep bending, and maybe in a year or two it might be less then a rent payment on an apartment lol.

I think some are too bent out of shape before all the facts are known. The price tag is no worse the the ps3 when it was released. The backward compatibility may have to do with them moving towards bluerayy versus the CDs they were using. The no game trading things has already started to move in through ea charging for online. Microsoft is the front man for the developers who really have always had an issue for it. If they do it ps3 will have too as well as the developers run the show in truth.

I work in the tech industry and I normally reserve judgment on these kind of things until I get all the facts out in front. It is easy to get caught up in hearsay and hearing third hand rumors that aren't exactly what things are.

Yeah, but I thought the PS3 pricetag during the first year was retarded too. It's why I never owned one.

I still think it's a horrible investment. I could indeed pay two months of rent for what they want. I'm sure it won't be quite as bad as what has been said. But at the same time I'm sure there's much truth in the rumors that are floating around. Yes, I'm sure the backwards compatibility issue has to do with blueray. But I bet it wouldn't cost them much to add the equipment to make the system able to read the old CDs.

The pay-for-play issue with not being able to play progressively unless you're online is the issue I can see most people being up in arms about. And I bet they'll pretty much force you to buy XBL gold in order to do some of that, adding to the cost for those that don't have it.

Not being able to buy used games, trade games, etc is something that is already going to happen. The days of video games being the cheap entertainment alternative are ending because of corporate greed. They were always trying to work out a system to prevent the Gamestops of the world from offering us used copies of games, making it easy to just wait it out and get something for $15-20 less a month after it's released. It will probably kill off part of their audience. Then again, they'll make enough from the people who keep paying to make up for it.

I just hope that most of the rumors prove to be false. Unfortunately it's the ones that are already confirmed that bother me the most. Evil or Very Mad

Update:

The XBox One will be $499.99 at release. Gamestop started taking limited preorders yesterday. Also, Microsoft will be offering free downloads of previous XBox titles, 2 per month, to sort of make up for the fact that the system is not backwards compatible. You won't need the discs to play them.

The free games is kind of sweet. The price tag to me isn't a big deal. $100 over the life span of the system is not going to break me. The 24 hour check in isn't an issue with me as I leave my system on all the time and mainly use it for online gaming as it is. The entertainment capabilities combined with the smart glass going forward I think will add value that many don't see yet. Sometimes people just get way to riled up over little things.

But as you said yourself, the points you're making aren't a big deal to you. I can see many of them being a problem for other people, particularly anyone who isn't able to connect to the internet or can't do so every 24 hours. I know most of us don't have that problem but I know many that do. $500 may not break you, but again it may break a good many people. Myself included. Don't get me wrong, I think the graphics look awesome. Madden 25 looks sweet on XB1. But there are drawbacks.
